The anti-nuclear power people whose Twitter accounts I follow don’t write such nonsense as, “There are a lot of people in Tokyo with nosebleeds!” That so-called “freelance journalists” who attend the news conferences of (Osaka Mayor) Hashimoto Toru ask questions of that sort makes me think that kisha clubs are needed after all.

    Well, the idea that Journalists ask dumb questions is hardly a new one. However, the Kisha club system is one of the main reasons why for example the Olympus scandal was not covered by Japanese journals, much to their own embarrassment when it was actually published in the international press. Only Facta came out of it unscathed
