Even her lofty theory will not be respected by her students unless she leaves apparent result.

"But a serious Japanese response would be a failure of diplomacy."

I do not get it. Anti-America opinion is dominating in internet world of Japan.

Anyway, having removed NK from the list now is very bad timing.
People of North Korea seem shaken up by rumors or flyer curtains from balloon.

When taking doubtfull news about healthy Kim Jong-il, he may be really critical or already gone.

Rice won't have any problem getting a job anywhere, even in colleges, without this.

This is Bush's responsibility. There are a lot of people in the US who think this is unacceptable, too--from Bush's party, but they haven't been able to figure him out for a while.

Hatoyama said it was a failure of Japanese diplomacy. I don't think so. There's nothing Japan could have done. But a serious Japanese response would be a failure of diplomacy.

Japanese finance minister Nakagawa expressed at G7 that Japan was ready to provide with their own foreign currency reserve to stop current financial meltdown.
Next day, the US removed North Korea from the list of state sponsors of terrorism against Japanese request.
(The background of it is said either of follows, that Hill, who is a Democrat, wanted to leave connection with this job for next admin or that Rice wanted to mark visible result to enable her to return to teaching job in colleges.)
Anyway, Nakagawa, who is not in charge of foreign affairs, commented on it, “That is not acceptable for us.”

A Brit used to say, “We require one thing to the Japanese. Then they accept it.
We require another to the Japanese. Then they concede.
We require one more to the Japanese. Then they compromise.
We require much more to the Japanese. Then they burst abruptly.”
The US had better not impose on Japanese easy mark character too much.

I suppose I'm being very unwise in not just copping this, but could you or Get a Job Son! provide sufficient examples of the frequent perpetrations of sensationalist tripe about Japan?

I am by the way an interested reader.

Nice post-script...
"Afterwords: What a refreshing change to see an overseas newspaper run a responsible article about Japan without any blatant nonsense. It’s even more refreshing to see it in The Australian, which is often a perpetrator of that nonsense."

... the Aussie IS usually less hard news about Japan and more sensationalist tripe.
