Mr. Koizumi is regarded as one of conservatists but I think he is a rationalist.
Now Mr. Fukuda is lame duck and Mr. Aso is deemed as top runner for next prime minister race.
He is supposed to reorganize conservative group with Mr. Abe and Mr. Hiranuma.
I think Mr. Koizumi dislikes that the conservative group make Koizumi reforms such as Post Office privatalization move backward.
Mr. Maehara, Mr. Watanabe and Ms. Koike would be synthesizing on his rationalistic policy.

I must say “a coup” is way more moderate term to describe Japanese politics than “execution by burning”.

It’s unfortunate that they use the term “coup”. I understand why but that term should not be used lightly or in an innapropriate context.

A coup is an illegal and often violent overthrow of a government. I assume that the Koizumi plan is not illegal.
